Case Studies
Company Profile
Employees: 100
Industry: New Home Construction
Infrastructure: Corporate headquarters is main location; multiple branch offices serve as sales and construction offices.
The Problem
With multiple geographically disperse locations, communication between corporate and branch locations presented a major challenge. The dissemination of new information to branches and assurance that each branch had properly comprehended the information was critical to the client’s success. Additionally, the installation of a custom-made software system to manage all aspects of their sales and construction process further compounded the issue. Although the custom software was a powerful tool capable of dramatically increasing efficiency, many employees lacked the knowledge of the new system necessary to take full advantage of its features.
The company’s single trainer spent many long hours driving from site to site. This dramatically decreased the time available to work on other pressing issues. At the branches, information was generally presented in many one-on-one sessions, as daily business demands often made it difficult to gather larger training groups to meet less frequently. Furthermore, when large groups were gathered together for training, the variety of job duties and varying skill levels lead to inefficiencies in the training process, as people would receive information that did not apply or with which they were already familiar.
The Solution
Convergence created a comprehensive collection of software simulations based on job roles for the company’s new, customized software program and implemented the Convergence Server Learning Management System to help the training manager deliver and track learner’s progress remotely. This approach delivered specific, repeatable training to the individual based on their required job duties. Additionally, because the software was delivered in a web-based format, the information was available 24/7 and employees could complete the training at their own pace as time became available.
Residual Benefits
The implementation of the new system greatly reduced travel time and scheduling conflicts. As a result, the company’s trainer was able to focus more attention on the information the training materials provided. Before implementing the system the company was planning to add a second trainer to handle the growing demands of the company. With Convergence’s solution in place, adding a new training position was no longer necessary.

Company Profile
Employees: 60,000
Industry: Pulp and Paper
Infrastructure: Fortune 500 company with multiple locations worldwide
The Problem
The client added new equipment and new personnel, introducing significant training challenges. The complexity of the new paper machines magnified the challenges, making the development of quality solutions vital to successful and safe operations.
The client had previously created a large volume of training materials for an earlier machine installation, but the materials were mainly paper-based and text-heavy with limited illustrations. The materials were not optimally suited for the complexity of the machinery or the self-paced learning environment and proved ineffective.
The Solution
The client collaborated with Convergence’s project management team to leverage their existing material and co-produce a large volume of multimedia-based training material. The Convergence team reviewed the material and transformed it into a curriculum of engaging, self-paced, and interactive training modules featuring more than 10 hours of multimedia-based content.
Additionally, the client employed “Convergence Scout,” Capstone’s mobile training solution, to familiarize operators with basic care routes and maintenance routines. The blended learning style gained high praise from operators participating in the training program and the paper machine startup was one of the most successful in company history.
Residual Benefits
The training material Convergence produced continues to be used at the facility and is available 24/7. Operators have the opportunity to study the complexities of the machine at their own pace and review information as reference if necessary. Training managers can quickly gain insight to the progress of the individual employees and set reminders for annual refresher courses.
